Ash Wednesday

Psalm 95      Jonah 3:1–4:11      Hebrews 12:1-14      Luke 18: 9-14

WHERE IS GOD IN MY LIFE?

A question is often asked
by various friends:
“Where is God in my life?”
The question is asked seriously,
as if it would be too much
for the Almighty to be personally aware
of many ‘little old mes.’

I appropriate their questions
to include myself,
and I can think of no better response
than “God is IN my life.”

Such assertion might be blithely hoped,
for we keep looking elsewhere.
My guess is
we can’t imagine God being close
and friendly—
aware of warts and all.

Inspirational material urges,
“Think big!”
In this case,
I counsel opposite;
think small
in daily incidents,
screened by our allowing,
“Well, yes; God could be involved
in this little happening;
no big deal.”
